Clean Air, Orangutans and The Farm Mechanic
We are obsessed with orangutans. Who isn’t? Orangutans are among the most iconic species on earth, they’re ticklish, they smile and laugh and are one of the smartest animals on the planet. What does that have to do with an artisan design house specializing in architectural structures and furniture? Well, a whole lot actually.
The FSC certification is considered the "gold standard" designation for wood harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious and economically viable. According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), buying FSC-certified outdoor furniture helps support sustainable forest management, which reduces the emission of greenhouse gases and protects wildlife habitats.
Did you know that we only use FSC Certified Wood throughout our ENTIRE product line? Well, if you don’t know, now you know!
Who doesn’t like breathing clean air and orangutans? Did you know orangutans are talented engineers? As you more likely know, trees are the lungs of the earth; and with forests disappearing at a terrifying rate, we try our best at The Farm Mechanic to do what we can to protect them. We don’t destroy habitats to build our structures and furniture. John and I choose to maximize our designs always with minimal environmental impact in mind.
We happen to really love orangutans (just in case that wasn’t clear yet) and all wildlife for that matter, except for snakes, but they have their importance and that’s ok with us. The Farm Mechanic wants to be a small glimmer of hope amongst all the doom and gloom of deforestation. We’d also like to see the earth last and flourish well beyond our time here.
Here at The Farm Mechanic choosing to build with FSC certified wood products means we’re standing for change. We’d like to be on the side of something positive in this world and to leave it better than we found it, which is why our designs are simplified to using sustainable materials, leaving no carbon footprint and not disrupting the environment our products are placed.
Luxury living can be achieved without compromising nature. We’ve designed all of our products based on the 2,000-year-old Japanese joinery temples designs. The Farm Mechanic’s hope is that our product designs leave the same lasting legacy.
P.S. One last thing - Don’t believe how talented orangutans are? Check them out with our boy David Attenborough in this short clip, “Attenborough: Amazing DIY Orangutans | BBC Earth”
